Naturally…

This morning I went out into the garden to harvest some strawberries.’Harvest’ is a bit generous, let’s say we picked seven. Every time we find one juicy enough and ready to eat, poised under a leaf, I find it amazing. Amazing that they grow despite my daily scrutiny, that they can taste so sweet growing in this little urban garden in the middle of polluted London and grateful that we lose only one in five, sacrificial to our slimy little friends.

Today I spotted a huge gaping hole in the side of a really plump little berry and I remembered this Rastaman I met years ago. He was planting corn in his veg patch and he told me that monkeys love his corn, so he plants one for him and one for the monkeys and that way everyone has plenty.

Generosity starts with slugs and monkeys…
